Butch Walker as... Glennis an ode to the singer-songwriter piano man balladeer. It is a tribute to some of Butch's heros: Elton John, Billy Joel, Jackson Brown and Warren Zevon. This is the first time ever that Butch wrote an album entirely on piano; it was recorded in Butch's new Nashville studio. The idea to write and record the album from the perspective of the character Glenn came from Butch not being inspired to do things the same way every time.

Butch explains, "I got bored with being myself, a lot of my favorite artists from back in the day were always playing characters, yet the idea that an artist can proudly hide behind an alter ego has been so far removed from popular culture." Like many previous Butch Walker releases, this album is not a rock-and-roll record; instead, it takes on a more somber tone. The sounds of the piano poetically align with the bittersweet sadness of the lyrics telling the story of an aging piano balladeer playing bars and menu venues never having quite made it.
