UNCLE TUPELO - NO DEPRESSION Vinyl LP

UNCLE TUPELO No Depression (2026 UK/EU 12-track LP pressed on 180 Gram Black Vinyl)

The 1990 debut album from Uncle Tupelo, the Belleville, Illinois trio of Jay Farrar, Jeff Tweedy and Mike Heidorn, now reissued on vinyl. Its impact on alternative country was such that No Depression is sometimes used as a synonym for the genre itself. In 1999 Spin listed it among the Top 90 Albums of the 90s.

Farrar and Tweedy, the band's singers and songwriters, built its sound on a punk attitude, pairing heavy guitars with mandolins, fiddles and banjos. The lyrics portray rural, blue-collar Midwestern life as a bleak twilight existence, divided between shifts on the line in "Factory Belt" and bleary nights of drinking in "Whiskey Bottle" and "Before I Break". Farrar and Tweedy went on to lead Son Volt and Wilco respectively. This is an audiophile pressing.
