UNCLE TUPELO March 16-20, 1992 (2026 UK/EU 15-track LP pressed on 180 Gram Black Vinyl)
The third studio album from the alternative country trio of Jay Farrar, Jeff Tweedy and Mike Heidorn, first released in 1992 and now reissued on vinyl. It was produced by R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck, and its title marks the five days over which it was recorded. The record is almost entirely acoustic and sets the band's original songs beside covers of traditional folk songs in close to equal number. Farrar and Tweedy later went on to form Son Volt and Wilco.
The album arrived as the band's popularity was growing, and it outsold their first two albums, No Depression and Still Feel Gone, combined. Jason Ankeny of AllMusic called it 'a brilliant resurrection of a bygone era', and Bill Wyman of Entertainment Weekly described it as 'a moving and sincere New Depression manifesto'. This is an audiophile pressing, and the two earlier albums are also available on vinyl.
