JEM RECORDS CELEBRATES BOB DYLAN / VARIOUS Colored Vinyl LP

The "Jem Records Celebrates Bob Dylan" LP by V.A. is released on Jem and presents a collection of renditions of selected songs by the songwriter, recorded by artists from the rock and power-pop scene. The compilation features artists such as The Weeklings, The Grip Weeds, Paul Collins, The Anderson Council, Richard Barone, Nick Piunti & The Complicated Men, The Cynz, The Midnight Callers, The Airport 77s, The High Frequencies, and The On & Ons. The participating bands approach Dylans work with different sonic means: guitar-driven arrangements meet melody-focused power pop and, at times, stripped-down, singer-songwriter-style performances. 

This results in a range of interpretations that formally respects the song material while at the same time setting new accents. In addition, Richard Barone contributes explanatory liner notes that contextualize the concept behind the compilation. Several contributions suggest characteristic intersections between the Dylan canon and todays indie scene: The Airport 77s, The Anderson Council, The Cynz, The Midnight Callers, and Nick Piunti each deliver distinctive cover versions that draw on both well-known melodies and less frequently heard tracks. In doing so, the compilation puts the focus on Dylans songwriting and shows how different bands translate his songs into their own sonic landscapes.
