A single LP cut at half speed, the sixteen tracks divided eight to a side. Every copy is hand-pressed and the label states that the blue, green and orange blend differs from copy to copy. Warner's retail marketing lists it as a brick-and-mortar exclusive with a street date of December 4, 2026.

Plastic Beach is the third Gorillaz album, issued in March 2010. It entered both the UK Albums Chart and the Billboard 200 at number two, reached the top ten in twenty-two countries, and is certified platinum by the BPI.

The sessions moved across six rooms on three continents: Studio 13 in London, the disused Rolls-Royce factory in Derby, Capitol in Hollywood, Chung King in New York, Dar al-Assad for Culture and Arts in Damascus, and The Shrine in Lagos. In the band's own narrative the record is made at Plastic Beach HQ, a floating island in the South Pacific assembled from washed-up debris.

The album is built on guest performances. Snoop Dogg appears on "Welcome to the World of the Plastic Beach," Bashy and Kano on "White Flag," Mos Def and Bobby Womack on "Stylo," Gruff Rhys and De La Soul on "Superfast Jellyfish," Yukimi Nagano of Little Dragon on "Empire Ants" and "To Binge," Mark E. Smith on "Glitter Freeze," and Lou Reed on "Some Kind of Nature." Mick Jones and Paul Simonon of the Clash, the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, the National Orchestra for Arabic Music and Sinfonia ViVA also play on the record.
