BLACK SHEEP - NON-FICTION Vinyl LP

Black Sheep is the influential hip-hop duo from Queens, New York, formed by Andres "Dres" Vargas Titus and William "Mista Lawnge" McLean. Although both members hail from New York, they met as teenagers in Sanford, North Carolina, where their families had relocated. The duo became part of the celebrated Native Tongues Collective, alongside Jungle Brothers, A Tribe Called Quest, and de la Soul, a movement known for it's creativity, positivity, and forward-thinking approach to hip-hop.

After joining forces in 1989, Black Sheep made an immediate impact with their 1991 breakthrough single "Flavor of the Month", followed by their acclaimed debut album A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing. The record earned widespread recognition for it's inventive rhythms and sharp, witty, often humorous lyricism. Their second album Non-Fiction arrived in 1994, reaching No. 14 on the U.S. R&B/Hip-Hop chart and continuing their signature blend of jazzy hip-hop and clever, tongue-in-cheek storytelling. The album featured two singles "Without a Doubt" and "North South East West".

Following it's release, the group remained largely inactive throughout the decade, with the exception of Dres, who recorded a solo project under the moniker Dres The Black Sheep. Black Sheep eventually returned in 2006 with their long-awaited third album 8WM / Novakane. Shortly thereafter, Mista Lawnge departed, while Dres has continued to release music under the Black Sheep name. Black Sheep's Non-Fiction is available as a 2LP set on 180g black vinyl.
