Inarritu's 2016 work is a masterpiece that won the Academy Award for Best Director and Best Actor. Sakamoto accepted the request even though he was in poor health, recovering from oropharyngeal cancer he had been diagnosed with in 2014. The completed soundtrack became a masterpiece in the history of film music.
