Joe Lovano – or, “The tenor titan for our times” as critic Chris Kelsey of Allmusic refers to him – is not your average saxophone player. His resume boasts a degree from the prestigious Berklee College of Music, the forming of the Saxophone Summit with Dave Liebman and Michael Brecker (later replaced by Ravi Coltrane), and even a screen acting credit; Noah Buschel’s film The Missing Person from 2008, (also starring Amy Ryan and Michael Shannon).

Lovano’s love for jazz, as well as his preferred woodwind, is evident in the saxophonist/composer’s Top 10 Records list. Check out his picks along with a corresponding playlist, and don’t miss the footage of Lovano’s performance at the Berklee Global Jazz Institute below!
