As his official bio states, Jackson Boone is “a songwriter who quietly emerged from the misty magic of Portland, Oregon.” Misty is a perfect word for Boone’s music, especially that of his latest record Organic Light Factory, which he recorded with his backing band The Ocean Ghosts.

Boone’s sleepy, gorgeous new release is an amalgam of many things: soft psychedelia, shoegaze, folk and lo-fi rock. Produced by Riley Geare of Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Organic Light Factory further codifies Boone as a visionary songwriter – but also a songwriter that isn’t afraid to bathe in his sonic influences.

When we asked Jackson Boone what his Top 10 favorite records of all time were, he, like many of our Top 10 alumni, had a hard time sticking to just 10. Boone’s list goes to 11, and features work by fellow Portlander Elliott Smith (RIP), indie royalty Wilco, and Top 10 staples like The Band and Bob Dylan. If anything, Boone’s list is proof that good taste paves the road to good music.
